FAQ

It is my first time attending and feel shy meeting new people

Meeting new people for the first time can be daunting. Particularly a large group. You are welcome to Contact Us before you attend so our Team Coordinator can make sure you feel welcome. If you wish, we can arrange for a buddy at your fitness level to run/walk with you so you can familiarise yourself with the running/walking route.

I haven’t done much running, will I be able to keep up?

In short, yes. There is no need to go fast. We have runners and walkers of all fitness levels. You are welcome to run/walk solo, with a partner or in a group.  There are no expectations for you to compete. We have a professional Trainer who is at each session. He is more than happy to help anyone who wants to improve their running or walking skills.

I’ve been running for years. Do you do any serious training?

We have a full time professional Trainer on board. Many of our faster runners are training for their own personal goals, like marathons, half marathons, 10kms, fitness, weight loss, or just feeling good about their bodies. Monday night runs allow our faster runners to time trial their fastest pace over 7kms. Our Thursday night runs provides runners more opportunities to hone their abilities with a range of routes, including tempo runs, Fartlek runs, stair and hill runs and longer runs (up to 16kms).

I’m not sure if I can run.

That’s OK, we have many walkers. If you do want to get into running our Trainer can help start you with very short jogs spaced with long recovery walks to work up your fitness.

Is the run/walk accessible and safe?

As an unincorpated group, we cannot take responsibility for the actions of individuals. Having said that, the route goes along the Brisbane River, with good lighting and plenty of people around. The shorter route is fairly flat with good pathways, making it ideal for people using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The group is very supportive and someone will accompany you on your first time to make sure you feel safe. Our group aims to be as inclusive as possible, with women, men, intersex, trans, people with disabilities, older, younger, fit, unfit, fast, slow, committed or not sure. Everyone’s welcome.

What if the weather is poor, do we still run?

We generally do not run in very poor weather particularly storms and heavy rain due to safety. If unsure, please check our News and Events page or Facebook page for updates.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. There’s no need for fancy shoes or outfits. There’s no fees. There’s water taps at the meeting place and along the routes. You may want to bring a small amount of money to join us for dinner afterwards but that is up to you.
